Who Would Buy This: Those shopping for a great camera at a great price. This camera is especially great for those that take a lot of low light pictures. The SX230HS camera can take fantastic low light shots without having to deal with the negative aspects of a flash!
Summary: All in all the Canon SX230HS takes great shots, and it should being a digital camera after all. What we love about this camera though, is not just the great pictures it takes, it was the additional features! With all these great features, the fantastic picture quality, and the added HD video recording, we would have to recommend this product. At these prices this is a no brainer. Things we liked:
Lighting
This takes fantastic low light pictures with the HS System. The pictures do not blur or appear pixelated when zooming on a low light shot. We also loved how the Canon SX230HS performed in bright light shots as well. The camera meters correctly to whichever lighting you may be shooting in and doesn’t over compensate if extreme lighting situations.
Editing
One of the great features of the SX230HS is the pictures can be edited right on the camera. You can use filters, change colors, and even crop out the ugly stranger in the background! This saves you time trying to get the perfect shot, or having to upload and edit before sharing.
Zoom
The 14x optical zoom with optical image stabilizer will allow you to capture whatever you want, near or far. The zoom on this camera is smooth as butter! The Canon SX230HS has a ultra wide lens that will let you get more in the shot they you are accustomed to.
GPS
Probably our favorite feature on the SX230HS is the built in GPS tracker. This feature automatically records the location of the shots you take. Then with the Canon software you can view all the locations for your shots on one map. This is a great tool to remember that vacation you took.
HD Video
This camera also doubles as a HD video recorder. No longer do you need to carry around both your digital camera and your flip cam! The Canon SX230HS take stunning HD video. With full 1080p video, you won’t miss those moments when a still shot isn’t good enough.
Things we did not like About the SX230HS:
Size
Some of us that tested this camera have large hands, and it took some time to find a good grip. Technology keeps getting smaller, and those of us with bigger hands need to adapt I guess!
Flash Location
Another thing we didn’t love was the location of the flash. For the first few shots we did take with a flash, our finger was covering where the flash comes up. So that also takes a little getting used to.

Is the SX230HS worth the money?
We really think this camera could sell at a $300 price tag with no problem, even without all the added features. The picture quality you get, especially in different lighting situations is second to none. So with all the additional features, the Canon SX230HS at $198.00 – $239.00 is really a steal.
